Located along the waters of both Knik Arm and Turnagain Arm, West Anchorage real estate is in one of the most desirable Anchorage communities offering outstanding housing options and some of the best access to the coast.
Quiet, quaint and quintessentially “Alaskan”, West Anchorage offers a lifestyle that perfectly blends city living and natural wonders in one close-knit community. Just minutes from Downtown Anchorage and outstanding natural wilderness and recreation, West Anchorage homes for sale are a fantastic real estate and lifestyle investment.
Location, location, location! Homes in Columbia Park are conveniently located in west Anchorage, just minutes from the airport. You will feel right at home in the welcoming neighborhood that is heavily supported by the Filipino community. Great parties and good food await you. Several community gardens and parks provide recreational opportunities. Homes are nestled in between a variety of streets. A substantial amount of mixed housing has been built over four decades. This area has also been subject to eminent domain as the airport area expands. Another downside is that many homes are multi-generational which means that driveways and streets can have a lot of cars.
Turnagain Heights is a beautiful Anchorage community where residents appreciate quiet, secure streets. Updated homes in Turnagain Heights are often elegant and architecturally pleasing. I am fascinated by this neighborhood. It is removed from the hustle and bustle of town. There are so many different types of homes in this neighborhood that you could walk for days and never grow tired of seeing the diverse structures. The neighborhood is very close-knit with several families having lived on the west end for many generations. The most common style of home found in this area is similar to that found in Nunaka Valley, City View, Airport Heights, Rogers Park and downtown. Why some neighborhoods took off and others didn't is beyond me. If I had to guess, I would think it had to do with the economic opportunities in either direction. Keep in mind when most of these places were built, Anchorage was a very different and sparsely populated town.
An exceptional opportunity for west-side living in Anchorage, Wagner Estates offers residents a neighborhood that feels secluded in the Turnagain area with easy access to all the city’s amenities. I especially enjoy the townhomes on Leighton Drive. They were constructed in the early 2000s by the Peterson Group which continues to build in Anchorage and Eagle River. Other segments of this neighborhood are classic examples of a community that would benefit greatly with an HOA.
WestPark is a newer community in Anchorage, conveniently located near Ted Stevens Anchorage International Airport and Kincaid Park.
Woodland Park is located off Minnesota Drive and Northern Lights Boulevard. The established community of Woodland Park offers plenty of options for those seeking a well-maintained home along tree-lined streets. Woodland Park has the feel of a true neighborhood with a recent push to foster even more community. You can find more information about Woodland Park on its Facebook page.
